SRB Update from Tom:
Hi,

I just wanted to give an update to those that was not able to attend the meeting on Monday. We discussed some potential changes for next season.

1. We are looking to moving to a board of director versus having an officer team. The Board of Directors would make the majority of the decision for the club and drive the direction of the club. Any major items would still be brought the the club for a vote. The Board of Directors will have a conference call once a month to discuss club matters. It you would be willing to serve on the board of directors please let us know. We would then just have quick club meeting the morning of the tournament. Main reason for this is poor turnout at club meeting and at the Friday night meetings.

2. We are looking at obtaining our own club insurance policy next year and being an independent club. We can obtain insurance for the club similar to what we had through the bass federation from American Bass for $500 a year plus $100 for each open tournament. We would then reduce club membership dues from $75 to $40 per family. There are a couple reason for looking at doing this. First is obviously cost for the members. We had 67 paid member at $75 a member. This comes out to $5025, which the club only saw $1139. We have a very small percentage of members actually doing anything with the federation beyond fishing the club. Second is having to use the online rostering system with the Federation. It is time consuming entering everyone into the system and then generating an invoice and finally having to mail in a check every month to the federation. The one difference is that everyone will need to have $300,000 liability insurance on their boat.

3. We are looking to taking online sign-up for tournaments and taking PayPal. We are going to have a cut-off to sign up of Thursday at 8:00PM. This will give us time to setup our weigh in sheet and calculate payout so we can do payouts at the end of the tournament. We are looking to see if payments could be dropped off at J/H Marine also.

4. We are having a fun tournament on Oct 27th. There is not entry. Club is putting up the prize money of $500 for first, $300 for second, and $200 for third and $200 Big Fish. You have to have fished 4 out our 6 tournaments to be eligible for this added money. We are going to pilot the online tournament sign up so be on the lookout for that email. We will also have a $10 BF option, and $10 and $20 total weigh option pot.

We are having a change of venue for our Saturday meeting on July 28th. Tom and Cheryl Hadley have volunteered to host it. They have a pool, so for those that would like to swim bring your suits. Everything else remains the same. Bring a chair, a side dish, and your own drinks. There is house is located at 447 War Eagle Way Nampa, ID 83686. It is off of Greenhurst between 12th avenue and Midland. You will turn south on War Eagle. Look for the house with 3 garage doors.

Hi,
Since our next tournament is on a Sunday we are going to have a BBQ Saturday at 6:30 PM on July 28th at my house. Club will provide the meat. Please bring drinks, a side, and chairs. My house is located at 2116 S Kona Ave Nampa, ID. Kona is located off of Greenhurst between Middleton and Midland road. My house sits off the street a little way so look for the bass fishing mailbox topper that says Horrace. Family is welcome and I am sure my wife will have some sort of activity lined up for the kids. Please RSVP so we can get a head count.

If you have any question you can call or text me at 208-860-2530. Any people out of town that need a place to stay we do have a guess room.

From October through February the SRB meetings will be at 7:00PM on the first Monday of each month at the IHOP Restaurant at 1420 Nampa-Caldwell Blvd. This is across from Karcher Mall in Nampa.

The SRB Banquet will be held Saturday Nov. 18 at 1:00 pm at First United Presbyterian Church located at 400 Lake Lowell Ave, Nampa, ID 83686. It located on the corner of Canyon Street and Lake Lowell Ave. If you are on 12th avenue turn west by Nampa High school. The church is kitty-corner to Nampa's High School Football Stadium and is a red brick building. The current plan is to have the event catered, so contact Tom with a headcount if you are attending. This will be our November meeting. We will be having 2018 officer elections.

Dear Bass Tournament Angler:

The following guidelines and instructions have been formulated in an effort to reduce initial and delayed mortality during bass tournaments. We as tournament anglers are under constant scrutiny due to high mortality rates observed from various tournament anglers and organizations. We need to make sure that we as anglers take every step and precaution to help preserve the quality of our fisheries… Please read the following instructions very carefully and do your best to implement these instructions, as you and every other angler during this event are part of a grand solution to prove that a tournament can be conducted with high bass survival rates and we can leave this lake in as good a shape as we found it. If we do not show respect and concern for this fishery and others like it, the non-angling public and regulating authorities may take action and impose tournament restrictions. Let’s do everything we can to prove that we as ANGLERS are PROS at keeping bass alive.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR PROPER LIVEWELL CARE

In an effort to provide the best possible live release during this tournament; we are encouraging you to be proactive in addressing livewell conditions ALL DAY LONG. Although the weigh in procedure is critical, your handling of the fish throughout the day is even more critical, since the fish are in YOUR POSSESSION for the majority of the time.

1. Please study the following suggestions and give them your utmost consideration. In order to properly condition a livewell, you need to know the approximate volume of your livewell. We highly recommend that you measure the dimensions of your livewell(s) ahead of time to determine gallon volume. Use the following formula to determine the water capacity of your square or rectangular livewell. Using a measuring device (tape or ruler), multiply length times width times height of water in livewell (all in feet) times the constant 7.5. The result will be in gallons.

2. Fill livewell(s) early (shortly after takeoff) from good water in main body of lake. Do not fill livewell(s) or exchange water in creeks or coves and especially NOT at take off site. HELPFUL TIP: If you have separate livewells, fill first livewell early and store bags of ice in second livewell. This will help keep the primary livewell cool. Afterwards, if you need the second livewell, it will be easier to cool down. This method will also conserve your ice.

3. IMPORTANT!!!!Treat livewell with CATCH & RELEASE or PLEASE RELEASE ME early and re-circulate for a couple of minutes to thoroughly mix. For this tournament use the following chart to determine proper amount of CATCH & RELEASE or PLEASE RELEASE ME to add to your livewell. MAKE SURE YOU DOSE LIVEWELL BEFORE YOU START FISHING!!!!

GALLONS OF WATER CAPFUL(S) OF CATCH & RELEASE or PLEASE RELEASE ME FROM 10 OZ. BOTTLE

1. CRITICAL!!!LIVEWELL TEMPERATURES. Please keep your livewell(s) as close as possible to 65 degrees Fahrenheit. DO NOT LET LIVEWELL TEMPERATURES EXCEED 68 degrees Fahrenheit at any time during this tournament. Check your thermometer OFTEN to make sure temperatures are in target range.

2. Add 3% hydrogen peroxide to livewell once you catch your FIRST FISH. The 3% hydrogen peroxide will provide adequate dissolved oxygen levels even if you experience livewell failure. Pay attention to the dosage rates below and do not exceed our recommendations. Repeat this procedure when you start to operate second livewell upon introduction of fish.

GALLONS OF WATER 3% HYDROGEN PEROXIDE DOSAGE RATE

1. If you catch a heavy load of fish, please exchange water in livewell at least once during the day and repeat cooling of water, dosing of CATCH & RELEASE or PLEASE RELEASE ME and reapply hydrogen peroxide to livewell..

2. IMPORTANT!!!!!!!DO NOT. REPEAT. DO NOT PUMP IN FRESH WATER OR RECIRCULATE FRESH WATER THROUGHOUT THE DAY. This will defeat the purpose of cooling the water down and applications of water conditioners. DO NOT OPERATE LIVEWELLS ON TIMED AERATION. KEEP LIVEWELLS ON MANUAL RECIRCULATION CONSTANTLY.

3. DO NOT FILL WEIGH IN BAGS FROM WATER OVER THE SIDE OF BOAT AT WEIGH IN SITE!!!!Fill bags with water from treated and cooled livewells. Dip bags in livewells to fill with water or pump water from livewell through pump out pumps directly to bags as they hang off side of boat. To fill bags with water from lake at this point will totally defeat the purpose of all the work you have done in that livewell throughout the day.

4. TIPS FOR DEEP HOOKED OR WOUNDED (BLEEDING) BASS: Wet hands and try to remove hook using "through the gill method" working quickly. Do not keep bass out of water for more than 40 seconds. If having difficulty, then place bass in livewell water between procedures and allow it to breathe for a few moments and resume task of hook removal. If bass has swallowed the hook, then cut the line close as possible to hook eye and place bass in livewell. If bass is bleeding from body or gills, apply a pinch of PLEASE RELEASE ME directly to the wound. While we can’t guarantee that your bass will live, following these procedures will give them the best possible chance for survival.

5. TIPS FOR PROPERLY HANDLING FISH: Try to keep handling bass to a MINIMUM! Try not to let bass come in contact with carpet or let bass bounce around on carpet. This will cause extreme injury to the all-important slime coat or skin of the bass. If you do disrupt slime coating from this action, then this is a good time to rub some CATCH & RELEASE or PLEASE RELEASE ME on abrasion. Be cautious not to break jaws of bass. Once broken, that bass will not be able to feed again. ALWAYS hold bass in vertical position or use TWO HANDS to support body. Holding bass with single hand by way of mouth in a horizontal position without proper support will dislocate or break jaw.

- 16 OUNCE BOTTLE OF 3% HYDROGEN PEROXIDE
- CATCH & RELEASE FORMULA or PLEASE RELEASE ME (10 OUNCE BOTTLE PER TEAM)
- MEASURING DEVICE FOR HYDROGEN PEROXIDE
- 16 OUNCE BOTTLE 3% HYDROGEN PEROXIDE
- 10-15 Gallons 2 ½ Capfuls of CATCH & RELEASE or PLEASE RELEASE ME
- 20 Gallons 3 –3 ½ Capfuls of CATCH & RELEASE or PLEASE RELEASE ME
- 25-30 Gallons 5 Capfuls of CATCH & RELEASE or PLEASE RELEASE ME

First out raffle tickets will be sold at the ramp, draw at 6:00 a.m. Boats need to be in the water by 6:30 a.a. and blast-off will be approximately 6:45 a.m. Boats 1 - 7 are designated release boats. The fundraiser this Saturday is to help fund the reconstruction of a historical building in Caldwell for all Veteran’s to use. Please check them out on Facebook (Caldwell Veteran’s Memorial Hall). They are in need of raffle items and asked if one of the bass fishing clubs would donate a trip out on the water. Please let me know if you would like to help. We already have a couple fishing trips donated from Federation members. Members might want to sign up for the shoot also.

Due to the first Monday of March being National Pancake Day and IHOP reporting that they will be packed; the March meeting will be March 9 at IHOP.

Don't forget that SRB is running the kid's casting event at the Sport Show Friday March 6 from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. Tell them at the door that you are working the kids casting event and they will give you a badge and let you in for free.

For those of you that missed it (slackers!), the Federation banquet was great! We ended up changing caterers and the food from Smokey Davis was very good.

The November SRB meeting is the banquet meeting; it will be held Sunday Nov. 2 at 1:00 p.m. The location will be at Jason and Kira Bousquet's home in Meridian.
Directions to Banquet location: if you are coming from the west, take Garrity exit, north to Franklin. Right (east) on Franklin to Black Cat. Right (south) on Black Cat, over the interstate and to the top of the hill. Right (west) onto West View Drive, will become West View Place. We are on the left at 5085 West View Place. Ok to park in the driveway or on the main road. I’ll have a sign out or something as well.

Tom will do BBQ meat again, club will buy buns, salads, chips and drinks. Anyone wanting to bring potluck sides dishes or desserts can do so.

TBF is offering the TBF rod deal again for 2015; $100 (plus shipping/handling) for two rods and your FLW and TBF dues. Order online at TBF Store. Remember that you will still need to pay the club $23 for club dues / state Federation dues.

Thanks to everyone that came to fish or help at the SRB/BBB/Payette Youth Open tournament on C.J. Strike on July 19. We had 39 kids come to fish and the fishing overall was pretty good! Youth Open results.

Each August, anglers from The Idaho Bass Federation participate in the local "Catch A Special Thrill" Program at Black Canyon Reservoir. In the C.A.S.T. program, local anglers take handicapped and terminally ill kids from the Mountain States Tumor Institute out for a morning of fishing. After the fishing, everyone participates in a barbeque and an awards presentation for the kids that caught fish and the anglers that helped them. The South Idaho C.A.S.T. Event is scheduled for August 16, 2014 at Black Canyon Reservoir. Come and help out a kid! This year C.A.S.T. is trying to have boat captains register online so they will have a count of how many boats we could possibly have for the event. Online sign-up for C.A.S.T. Event

Don't forget the SRB Youth Open and Lady Bass Open tournaments coming up this weekend on C.J. Strike Reservoir on Air Force Ramp. Also remember that the bridge across the Snake River below the dam is closed, so people coming from the west on Highway 78 need to cross the river at Grand View and then go west to Air Force Ramp.

Youth Open: Saturday July 19, pre-tournament meeting at 5:45 a.m., tournament runs from 6:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. You can sign up before the meeting Saturday morning. The will be a BBQ after weigh-in with food provided by Buffalo Wild Wings. After the BBQ we will have a raffle with proceeds benefitting SRB's Needy Family Program.

The 2012 SRB Snow Bowl team fished hard at C.J. Strike on Nov. 3, but ended up in 4th place. Several other clubs had some serious big weights... including one 5 fish limit of smallmouths that weighed over 21 lbs and a largemouth over 7.5 lbs. It was a nice day weather-wise.

OK everyone:
The Snake River Bassmasters club banquet will be held Sunday, Nov. 4 at 1:00 p.m. (don't forget about Daylight Savings time, we go back one hour Sunday morning). This is the Sunday after the Snow Bowl, so the people that came to the valley for the Snow Bowl can stay for the banquet. The food will be pulled pork, beef brisket, potato salad, cole slaw and cake. No potluck items are required. We will have lots of raffle prizes plus awards. Pass the word on to other club members so that everyone knows about it.

Majority of our members are probably coming from the west I think so take Garrity exit, north to Franklin. Right (east) on Franklin to Black Cat. Right (south) on Black Cat, over the interstate and to the top of the hill. Right (west) onto West View Drive, will become West View Place. We are on the left at 5085 West View Place. Ok to park in the driveway or on the main road. I’ll have a sign out or something as well.

Buffalo Wild Wings kindly provided the great food at the Kid's Open tournament on Cascade. They are also going to match the raffle money we made at the tournament! Buffalo Wild Wings will present us with a check at our September SRB meeting. We planned on having at least a couple club meetings on a weekend so that out-of-town members could attend; this will be one of them. The meeting/presentation is Sept. 8 at 5:00 p.m. at the Buffalo Wild Wings Restaurant in Meridian. This is in the complex just north of St. Luke's Medical Center on South Eagle Road.

Roger L. Duncan, 58 of Nampa passed away on February 6, 2012 at his home from a hard fought and strong battle with cancer. Roger was born in Sterling, IL and was an avid fisherman, hunter, and camper. He spent many years as a member of the Snake River Bassmasters fishing club doing what he loved the most, with the ones he loved the most, fishing and being in the outdoors with friends and family. Roger was a kind man with a great heart that was always willing to lend a hand and help when he was needed. He was a hard worker, great fisherman, up most loving Husband, Father, Brother and grandpa, and the greatest friend that anyone could ever ask for. Roger was preceded in death by his Wife Donna Duncan (July 2010), Mother Marjorie Duncan-Yeoward (March 2009), Father Raymond F. Duncan, and Brother Jim Duncan. Roger is survived by his Daughter Keri Koch and her husband James of Nampa, and his son James Duncan of Nampa; 3 grandchildren Austin Duncan, Ashton Koch, and Jayden Koch; 3 Brothers Lawrence Duncan of Nampa, Idaho; Ray Duncan of Sterling, IL; Gary Duncan of Missouri, and numerous nieces and nephews of Idaho and Illinois Rogers’s ashes will be spread on a remote mountain top with a beautiful view overlooking Browlnee Reservoir where the ashes of his beloved wife, Donna, were sent to rest in peace. A memorial service will be held 5 PM, Saturday, February 18, 2012 at Grace Bible Church, 1415 W. Lone Star Rd. in Nampa. Flower arrangements are welcomed.

The next meeting is on November 7; it will be the SRB Banquet. It will be held at Mancino's Pizza at 126 S. Midland Blvd in Nampa; it is in the small strip mall at the corner of Midland Blvd and W. Roosevelt. The banquets need more time to eat and give out awards, so it will start at 6:30 p.m. Mancino's has great pizza and toasted sandwiches, so please attend.

Attached is the final proposal for Lake Lowell that we have spent the last 6 weeks working on. Also attached is a letter to the manager of Deer Flat Wildlife Refuge. Please print the letter, sign it with your address included and mail to the refuge. If every recipient of this message will do that we can make an impact. If you are waiting for someone else to save the lake for you it is already lost. Only you can save the lake.

If you prefer not to mail the letter it can be brought to the meeting at Western Marine on Thursday July 21st at 7 pm. Jennifer will be there to address all who will attend and to take questions from us. Because of a lack of seating please bring your camp chair and prepare to be amazed at the lack of science used to make their proposals.

Again, we would like to fill the room (will it take 500 to do so?) The more people we put in front of her the larger the impact we will make. Please plan to attend. It is important.

At the July 11 meeting the few attending members voted to try and blast-off as early as possible at the July 23 C.J. Strike tournament and to weigh-in at 2:00 p.m. This is to reduce heat-related injuries to both fish and fishermen.

The Owyhee Reservoir tournament on June 4 will be out of the Indian Creek Ramp instead on the Day Park Ramp due to another tournament being held on the Day Park Ramp. The draw for the tournament will be held at 5:00 a.m. at the ramp. Please arrive early enough to pay your entries and options before 5:00 a.m.

We have a club meeting Monday June 6 at the Refuge Visitor's Center by Lake Lowell. Someone from the Refuge will be there to talk to us about the CCP and how it will affect us.

The Deer Flat Refuge at Lake Lowell has released a new report with proposed restrictions on uses at the lake. Please review the documents in the links below and send in your comments.
From the Refuge: "We welcome and encourage you to be part of this process. From now until July 29, 2011, we will be accepting public comments on the preliminary draft alternatives. Those comments will be considered as we develop the draft CCP/EIS. We thank everyone who has provided comments so far and we invite you to continue sharing your ideas with us. The Channel 6 news in Boise has carried a story about the Lake Lowell planning process for the last two evenings and I have been busy enough to miss the story until the very end. What little I can get from it sounds as if all recreation on the lake will be banned. I did not say that was definite but the story had to do with the economic impact of what the plan appears to be leaning toward. One part that I did get that scares me dramatically was the statement that so far they have received only 40 comments.

I have sent several requests that our membership inundate them with comments and apparently the request is falling on deaf ears. I know that a large majority who are receiving this message don't live near Lake Lowell, may never have fished it and may never have the opportunity to do so. I still need your help. If DFWS manages to shut this body of water to recreation they will use it as a catalyst to do so nation wide. This lake is under consideration for hosting the 2012 Northwest Division Championship and IDFG is currently putting a good deal of effort into improving the fishery.

Please make your comments now. There is nothing limiting the number of times you can comment and you are not required to identify yourself. We have over 300 members and I would expect that we should have at least that many comments on file by this time.

The annnual C.A.S.T. event were bass anglers take a disabled or terminally ill kid out fishing is coming up this weekend. If you can possibly make it please show up and make a kid's day! It's on Black Canyon Reservoir (above Emmett) and you need to show up around 8:00a.m. The event is usually done by 2:00 p.m.

Not much of a meeting Monday night; I will get some minutes up on the website tomorrow. All SRB club members need to remember that the Hot Summer Night tournament is the main source of operating income for our club. Everyone should make an effort to fish the tournament or at least come up and help with running it. We will need potluck food, a couple more tables, another BBQ, help with running the potluck, and on Sunday morning we will need: a check-in boat, weigh-in help and at least three release boats.

There are several styles of sunglasses to check out, all are $16.00 per pair with part of the money going to TIBF. The sunglasses need to be ordered in groups of 12 for shipping. If you are interested in ordering, come to the meeting and look them over.

The June 5 & 6 club tournament scheduled on Hells Canyon Reservoir was cancelled due to extremely high water, dangerous current and huge logs floating in the water. Premier Bass cancelled their June 5 tournament for Brownlee Reservoir at Woodhead ramp and Larry Raganit let us use his permit; thanks Larry! After we had moved the tournament to Brownlee we heard that thet were spilling water over the spillway at Brownlee Dam and the sheriff closed the boat ramps in Oxbow and Hells Canyon. Below is a distant picture of Pine Creek running into Hells Canyon Reservoir; you can see some logs floating in the dirty water.

The public comment period for the Lake Lowell Improvement Plan has begun and is open until June 4. The Refuge's goal is to: "restore the lake to conditions supporting its beneficial uses: aesthetics, primary contact recreation, and warm water aquatic life." This may or may not affect boating and bass tournaments, so everyone needs to let the DEQ and USFWS know that we want to see boating and fishing continue on Lake Lowell.
How to Comment: Residents are encourage to send written comments by June 4 to Lauri Monnot, DEQ Boise Regional Office, 1445 N. Orchard, Boise, ID 83706; by FAX to 373-0550; or by e-mail to lauri.monnot@deq.idaho.gov.

The trash pickup at Lake Lowell was cancelled at the last minute due to high winds and nasty weather. We moved to Bill Kriner's house for the meeting and potluck. Thanks Bill and Jeanelle!!! A couple SRB members will do a trash pick-up at the lake to fulfill our obligation to the Refuge.

We doing the trash pickup at Lake Lowell before the May meeting. Everyone needs to show up at the Caldwell Dam around 6:30 p.m. We will do the trash pickup, then have a potluck BBQ and hold the meeting there at the lake.

The C.J. Strike tournament was moved from Saturday March 13 to Sunday March 14 due to bad weather and high wind advisories for Saturday. Weigh-in will be at 3:00 p.m. instead of 4:00 p.m.

ODFW said no to our Oxbow tournament on June 6, so we made the Hells Canyon tournament a 2-day tounament: June 5 & 6. We will still have a potluck BBQ on Saturday night at Copperfield Campground.

The first SRB Club Tournament of 2010 is coming up in March, so boaters remember to bring a copy of your boat insurance that shows an expiration date and that you have at least $100,000 liability coverage on the boat to the March meeting.

The next SRB meeting was scheduled on the first Monday of January: January 4. That is the same time/date as the Fiesta Bowl and rather than have a meeting with only three or four people attending, the meeting will be moved to the second Monday in January: January 11. Please pass this information on to other club members.
